Orly Cogan's Museum Show Schedule for 2009

Orly Cogan will be participating in the following museum exhibitions this year:

1. Exhibition title: "She Will Always Be Younger Than Us"
Textile Museum of Canada. On view now through September 7th 2009.

2. Exhibition Title: "It’s Not Us, It’s You"
The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art.
This show will be on view through the end of June. It’s Not Us, It’s You is an exhibition that explores the inevitability of rejection in our lives – a timely topic in today’s woeful economic climate. Through a tragic and sometimes heartbreaking lens, the artists in this exhibition respond to the reality of rejection with subversion, self-reflection, humor and brutal honesty.

3. Exhibition Title: "Pretty Tough: Contemporary Storytelling". At The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in CT. June 21, 2009, to January 3, 2010

The women in this exhibition, although formally distinct, all reclaim storytelling as a strategy to address contemporary discourses on warfare, the environment, and female struggles. The artists focus on narrative representation and figuration. Their fairytale-like depictions are in reality reflections on submerged violence, played out through refined, delicate, and meticulous work. The artists look back at traditional modes of expression, such as storytelling, as well as engaging traditional or vintage techniques that require a labor—intensive process—obsessive, elaborate, yet impeccable manufacture. This highly stylized work—pretty—offers profound assessments of our contemporary world—tough—by relying on storytelling as a subversive strategy that permeates the public sphere more efficiently than confrontational discourses.

4. Exhibition Title: "I Want Candy"
The Fresno Metropolitan Museum from June 26th - September 6th 09.
This installation will be traveling to various Museum exhibitions through out the US for one year following this show in Fresno.
